Hair Chalking - How to

DIRECTIONS:

Supplies needed: water bottle, protective gloves, towels and a flat iron (a hair dryer with an infuser or curling iron will also work).

STEP 1:

PREPARE YOUR HAIR

Blond Hair or Color Treated Hair: Lightly wet or do not wet the hair before chalking. The color stays in longer (even after you have washed it) when your hair is wet.

Darker Hair: If your hair is darker, you will want to apply more water to the strands you are trying to chalk. This will make the hair chalk become very vibrant on your hair.

Red heads: You will want to try it without water first and if the color doesn't show up as strong as you want, add a little water. You will add more water depending on how light or dark you would like the color to show up on your locks.

Use only our “soft pastels” hair chalk. These colors are carefully researched and it's all time faves for hair chalk colors.

STEP 2:

ADD THE COLOR

You will want to twist your hair as you apply the chalk. This will make the hair color look more natural. Apply the chalk to the strand of hair in a downward motion as to not break your hair. You can try for a fun ombre look, or just do a couple strands, or use two or three colors in one strand to sexy it up! You’re the artist and your hair is your pallet.

STEP 3:

LET IT DRY

As your hair dries, the chalk becomes powder. You either will need to let it air dry (recommended if you do not want to lose any of the color) or blow dry it with an infuser to help heat set in.

STEP 4:

SET THE COLOR

You can further seal the color in with a flat iron or a curling iron to add waves. Apply hair spray to help set the color in as well as the style.

STEP 5:

WASH IT OUT WHEN YOU’RE READY

The color usually will stay in for one shampoo. However, if the hair is more porous, such as color-treated or blonde hair, it can last a couple of shampoos. You may use a clarifying shampoo or dish soap to remove the color more quickly, both of these types of cleansers have more detergent. Don’t use dish soap on all of your hair, just on the strands that have been chalked.
